Post-move update

Post-move update

I have finally moved into my new place. I hate it.
I couldn't get internet for several days because the technician goofed.
When I got another technician to fix the mistakes, I was charged for it. Pffft!

The Move Experience

The movers:

* arrived 3 hours late due to being double-booked
* took 2 hours to pack my stuff (I don't have much)
* took 3 hours to get to my new place (they got caught in a traffic jam)
* took 2 hours to unload my stuff due to one of the guys 'surveying' (i.e. lazy)
* they took so long that my frozen food thawed and had to be thrown out
* they put both computer desks in the storage room
* they broke the wooden base for my mattress (need to buy a new one)
* they tried to get into a box labelled 'valuable' (it was just plates lol)
* talked goddamn loud, even right next to each other

Negative things about living here:

* every room has a wooden floor with zero carpet
* there are holes in the wooden floor,  so we get bugs and wind drafts
* the house is on a natural lean
* the floor does not compensate for the house's natural lean
* every window has grime, paint globs, dead insects, or small cracks in it
* every door and window needs force to open and shut
* some walls have gashes where heavy objects have hit them
* there are no Venetian blinds, only curtains
* the kitchen has no curtains
* some of the curtains wind up and down and are difficult to move
* the front door has a peep hole but the glass is heavily scratched
* the old-timey metal shutter lock for the laundry door is missing
* there are only two bathrooms; a half bathroom and a three-quarter bathroom
* the lock for the three-quarter bathroom does not work
* there is no lock for the half-bathroom (the one that has the toilet)
* the half-bathroom has no mirror
* the sink for the half-bathroom is on the wall so close to the door it gets bashed
* the three-quarter bathroom's mirror is not above the sink but on a nearby wall
* half the windows are jammed and either don't open or can't be reclosed
* the oven is electric (blurgh) and takes ages to heat up
* the oven is very loud when in operation
* the oven is very convoluted and I thought it was broken until I fluked it
* the oven knobs easily come off and don't easily go back on
* the oven door needs force to open and cannot fully open to be horizontally flat
* there is no bottom shelf in the oven, just a weak oversized oven tray
* the bottom-right stove top on the oven is broken and non-functional
* every tap has its water pressure too high
* every tap can do hot and cold water but has no labels as to which is which
* the trees outside my bedroom has very loud singing birds at 6 am
* only one of the garage doors can open (suits me as I have no car)
* the previous tenants ripped the carpet in the basement off
* the stairs have jutting-out overhang ledges that catch your heels
* the bathtub is smaller than my last one
* the corners of the bathtub for putting things are too small for most things
* the laundry chute hasn't been cleaned and spiders and webs now inhabit it
* the laundry chute hole in the pantry can't be covered properly
* the Ethernet internet cable running through the wall is non-functioning
* the TV was hooked up in the corner of the living room in a very awkward spot
* I was upgraded to Vodafone TV, which honestly is worse than the regular cable TV
* almost every light fitting didn't have a lightbulb
* the two light fittings on the walls in the living room are covered and can't be used
* some light switches are inverted, making it all inconsistent
* some light switches turn on lights in other rooms rather than the same room
* the next door neighbour has work at 4 am and isn't quiet about it
* there are some sirens in the neighbourhood that sound like nuclear bomb warnings
* the tap in the laundry room tub leaks
* the tap in the kitchen leaks
* the house gets VERY dark at night
* the front porch security light is broken and non-functional
* there is a house across the street under construction (lots of noise made)
* every window latch is like a half moon latch that hurts your thumbs to move them
* there are ants in the house; regular ones and the ones with wings
* the supermarkets are twice as far from here as my old place to theirs
* the supermarket prices are higher here due to being more small town than suburb
* the supermarkets are also smaller and have less items
* there are barely any restaurants here and their prices are eye-watering
* it rains suddenly and finishes just as fast, like in Sydney, Australia
* the rubbish and recycling are done by independent collectors and not the city council
* the house is smaller than my old one and I'm paying more rent for it. Pffft!

Positive things about living here:

* it is a nice neighbourhood with big posh houses
* nice cars around here too
* there are two supermarkets here (my old place only had one)
* lots of light switches
* the sliding door between the living room and dining room has been removed
* lots of bedrooms (albeit all are very small)
* the backyard is spacious, lots of trees, with potential for gardening
* the high fences ensue privacy
* some of the neighbours are growing lemon trees (nice visual touch)
* there are Victorian-style lamps at the front entrance, albeit non-functioning
* some of the curtains are very nice
* detachable shower head
* can see the nearby river from the kitchen windows
* the previous tenants replaced the backyard steps with a wooden ramp
* the three-quarter bathroom has a skylight
* we get lots of tuis here, which are beautiful singing birds
* I've seen some cats, though sadly not in my backyard
* we get a pantry, though it's small, but it does have a working light bulb in it
* the Wi-Fi coverage is pretty good with almost no dead-zones
* the new Vodafone plan changed my IP
* the neighbours are quiet and dignified (for the most part)

Overall:

I hate it here. I want to move out ASAP.
I cannot leave until January 2021 as I don't get my payout until then.
Hopefully I can snag a decent home before this housing market makes me homeless.

I have done more work on cancelled games.
I'll be honest, I'm burnt out from the move and don't feel like starting the blog yet.
It'll probably launch at the beginning of 2021 after I recover from Christmas and New Year's.
