Gaming projects

Gaming projects

It's time I kept track of the games I play.
Not counted will be demos and games I quickly drop.

#### 2021: ####

Shadow of the Tomb Raider:   Lara's final outing in this reboot trilogy.
I agree that this is the weakest in the lot but its good.
Worthy of your time if you can get it cheap.
Done: beaten game, all cards, most trophies.

Zero Escape: The Nonary Games: Two great handhelds ported in fine form.
Part puzzle game part visual novel, and all a good time.
Some may prefer the originals but these are fine.
Done: all branches done for both games.

Hitman:     Agent 47 takes contracts but it turns out something big is at play.
I really like this World of Assassination trilogy.
The sandbox nature with mission stories make this great.
Done: as many challenges as I want to, SASO all destinations.

Full Throttle Remastered:     Ben the biker stumbles into a plot of mystery and intrigue.
This is a classic point and click game full of charm and heart.
It's LucasArts at its best. And it has Mark Hamill so there.
                    Done: platinumed!

Detroit: Become Human: Three playable characters with intertwining plots.
A forest of branching storylines where choices actually matter.
Oh yes, this is peak Quantic Dream. It's a good one.
Done: beat the game, can't be bothered replaying.

Guacemelee 2: Juan the luchador goes to Hell... and beats everyone up!
A sequel to the classic metroidvania hit.
This game is just as amazing and demands to be played.
Done: all collectables, 100% completion.

Yakuza Kiwami 2: Kazuma Kiryu is back on the mean streets of Kamurocho.
This time he has to beat up Ryuji Goda, The Dragon of Kansai.
All the classic tropes are here. This could be the best.
Done: beaten game, all substories done, can't be bothered 100%ing.

Horizon Zero Dawn: A post apocalyptic world where robot animals rule the Earth.
The game took a while to grow on me but it blossomed soon enough.
I really like the backstory. The characters not so much.
        Done: platinumed!

Borderlands 2: Vault hunters unite unite against the always cool Handsome Jack.
I played this game co-op with Darin on the remastered version.
I'll be honest, the internety humour and writing irritates me.
Done: beat the game, can't be bothered doing DLC.

The Walking Dead: New Frontier: A bit of a change for the series, and not a bad thing.
It kinda sucks that your choices from Season 2 didn't matter.
It's meek, it's bleak, and I'm not playing The Final Season.
                                Done: platinumed!

Control: Jesse Faden is both a woman on a mission and the director of the investigation.
This is a weird game but is delightfully bizarre.
It's hard but there are accessibility options to turn invincibility on.
Done: platinumed!

Hitman 2: Hitman 2 puts us back in the sharp suit of the baldie 47.
This time we meet someone from our past.
This is probably my fave in the series. Good DLC too.
Done: as many challenges as I want to, SASO all destinations.

Kingdom Hearts III:        The final in the series. It all comes down to this.
Lots of action and plot to unravel. I admit I got lost near the end.
It's pretty good but I agree it's not as good as KHII.
            Done: platinumed!

#### 2022: ####

Worms Armageddon:     Classic turn-based fun. Nostalgic and kino.
I like to play with all the cheats: enter boggysentme on main.
This can be like a fluffer game, to get me in the mood for gaming.
Done: goofed around, can't be bothered doing the missions.

The Stanley Parable:     A first-person game of exploration, mystery, and intrigue.
Part of the fun is to explore everywhere to get all the endings.
It's okay. I found the Museum very early on.
Done: almost all endings (not doing the Art Ending).

Loop Hero:     Build a world that you loop around. It's addictive as hell.
The game is surprisingly deep. Lots of cool mechanics to unlock.
I really like the music and the accessibility options.
Done: beat the game, can't be bothered beating the secret bosses.

Deep Rock Galactic: Control one of four classes of dwarf and go mining!
I'll be honest I'm not into this. Maybe if I had a team I would.
It's too repetitive, friendly fire, map generation... no thanks.
        Done: all assignments done

Hitman III: The finale of the World of Assassination trilogy.
This game is great but it needed more mission stories.
The DLC sucks but IOI is working on more content for 2022.
                                Done: all destinations 100%, platinumed!

Neo: The World Ends With You:    A group of teens team up to complete the Reapers Game.
Addictive if repetitive gameplay, great music, and funny writing.
                            This is a good game.
Done: beat the game, can't be bothered grinding.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2:     Two classic games combined in one sick combo.
All the levels are here with new goals, and lots of accessories.
Admittedly I don't like most of the new songs. Good game.
                            Done: THPS1 100%, THPS2 100%, might come back.

SpongeBob BFBB Rehydrated:     A pretty fun game based on a franchise I liked (for a while).
It can get a repetitive, but it's a short game.
There's also no Clancy Jones or Ernest Borgnine.
Done: all golden spatulas and socks collected, platinumed!

Slay the Spire:       A pretty good card game that is both simple and complex.
It can be addicting but it can get frustrating with the RNG.
I may come back to this later.
Done: unlocked all playable characters, gotten to Act 3 a few times.

Immortals: Fenyx Rising: A great action-adventure game that's funny and fun.
It combines the best part of the rebooted Assassin's Creed games.
                Done: finished, all trophies, platinum'd

Yakuza 6: The final chapter in Kiryu Kazama's story.         This is top-tier gameplay, up there with Yakuza 0.
Done: beat the game, all substories done, did all I wanted to do
Ape Escape: A PS1 classic. Catch the goddamn apes, now with trophies!
Done: platinum'd, might return to get all the apes.

Until Dawn: A group of friends spend one bad night in a cabin in the woods.
Every decision you make, even the seemingly harmless, matters.
This is pretty good, though the controls irk me and lame writing.

Stray: Play as a cute cat in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi platformer.
It's cute, charming, and confusing at times.
Done: finished game, all memories, all badges

Bloodstained ROTN:    Pretty great sidescroller that plays like a GBA Castlevania game.
The graphics take some time getting used too.
Other than that it is a solid game worthy of your time.
Done: beaten the game, all quests done

The Messenger: 8-bit retro sidescroller, a homage to Ninja Gaiden.
Like its inspiration it is tricky dicky.
Done: beaten The Catacombs, got bored

Indivisable: A cute sidescroller platformer with RPG style battles.
Love the graphics and overall aesthetic. Gameplay is pretty eh.
        Done: escaped prison, got bored

Journey to the Savage Planet:     A FPS wherein you explore a planet, with platforming and combat.
It has a slow pace but it has good humour. Those videos are great.
Done: beat the game, can't be bothered getting collectables

World of Final Fantasy: Final Fantasy meets Pokemon in this collect 'em and beat 'em RPG.
I like the writing but not so much the graphics or gameplay.
Done: arrived at Chapter 5, taking a break (probably permanently)

Bugnax:            First person exploration game of capturing cute food creatures.
This game is quite chill with it's music and gameplay.
The LGBT content is very off-putting but at least they're likable.
Done: platinum'd, can't be bothered doing all the requests

Danganronpa 2:         Visual novel with a murder mystery whodunit.
I last played this in 2018. The replay was good. Now for V3 (one day)!
        Done: 100% achievements!

Granblue Fantasy Versus:    2D fighting game with adorable girls and edgelord boys.
Love the anime aesthetic but found it lacking. Text too small too.

Overwatch 2: Refused to play this. It requires a phone number. Pffft.
Blizzard killed Overwatch 1 for this? More like Warcraft III: Reforged 2.0.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey:     Open-world action game with an emphasis on stealth.
This is better than Origins but something feels lacking... soul?
                   Done: platinum'd!

Spider-Man: Miles Morales:       Open-world action game with the black-Latino Spider-Man.                         It's a smaller game but still big on action.                         I dropped this because I honestly got fed up with it.

#### 2023: ####

2023 PC GAMES BACKLOG LIGHTNING ROUND:
Tangle Tower: pretty fun point-and-click murder mystery game. Short but has soul. Strange Horticulture: an alright puzzle game with charm. Can get tedious for mush-brains. Hypnospace Outlaw: patrol 90s era internet and report on bad content. Great fun and nostalgic. Quake remaster: a classic FPS with all mission packs plus a few great new ones. Worth a go.
Portal with RTX: a high-graphics version of a classic FPS puzzle game. I can run it fine.
Return to Shironagasu Island: visual novel about a mysterious island. It's pretty good. Needy Streamer Overdose: manage a girl streamer. It's pretty fun and can take a while to beat.
Black Mesa: fan made remake of Half Life. It's greatness is dampened by Half Life's jankiness. Age of Empires IV: historical RTS game of expanding and conquering. Not as good as AoE2.
Milk Inside a Bag of Milk Inside a Bag of Milk: very short visual novel dealing with mental illness.
Milk Outside a Bag of Milk Outside a Bag of Milk: short point-and-click dealing with mental illness.
Two Point Hospital: build a hospital and treat patients. Despite its humour and vibe I got bored easy.
Ion Fury: pretty fun boomer shooter set in a cyberpunk city with a female lead. It's a slog to get through.

PS4 COMEBACK SAGA:

Final Fantasy VII Remake:     A great action-RPG game that retells the timeless tale.                     This is admittedly better than the overrated original.                             A shame it's only part one, only set in Midgar.                     Done: beaten game, can't be bothered playing anymore.

Tekken 7:   Good ol' Tekken. When you've played one, you've played them all.
This is probably the best one... after Tekken 3 and 5.
    Done: achieved all non-multiplayer trophies

## DEMOS LIGHTNING ROUND: ##
Theatrhythm Final Bar Line: pretty fun rhythm game showcasing music from the Final Fantasy series.
Untitled Goose Game: a quirky game that's more fun to watch people play than play it yourself.
Octopath Traveller II: it could be fun but it's slow as shit and kinda boring. Meet Your Maker: FPS game in which you build forts and raid others'. It was dull after ten minutes. Back 4 Blood: a modern L4D with a card system. It's fun in small doses but lacks soul. Descenders: an alright game for casual fun. I hate the forced multiplayer but nice soundtrack.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure: An isometric platformer full of collectables and cute charm.                 This is pretty fun but I can only handle it in small doses. `                 Done: partway through Soaring Summit, may return later. Days Gone: An open-world post apocalyptic zombie horror survival game. This game is pretty good, like TLoU meets GTA. Unfortunately I wasn't really in the mood for survival horror. Done: played for an hour and hit a glitch so I quit.

Dragon Ball FighterZ: A 3v3 fighting game that is top notch arcade fun.         The controls are a bit convoluted and my faves are locked behind DLC.         This was alright but my fingers hurt so it's on hiatus.         Done: made progress on combo challenges before quitting. Total Overkill: A great cyberpunk FPS boomer shooter with a modern gleam. It's like Ion Fury + Borderlands with none of the cringe. Done: episode 2. Come on episode 3!

Judgement: Yagami is a lawyer-turned-detective who solves cases.
This involves searching for clues, tailing suspects, and beating people up. This Yakuza spinoff games changes things up. It's pretty good, Done: finished game, did all I felt like doing.

Doom Eternal: Journey back to Hell to stop the demon invasion of Earth.
The action is good yet the weapon swapping and platforming sucks.
I prefer Doom 2016 but I'll still recommend this.
Done: Super Gore Nest, got bored, taking a break

NieR:Automata: Androids have to fend off machines. You play as robo-waifu 2B.
This has a good mixture of combat and humour. A true gem.
Lots of endings to unlock. This is a great modern-day classic.
Done: beat Routes A, B, C, D, and E, probably done with game

Monster Hunter Rise:   Beat up giant monsters and kill them or catch them.
This is pretty good. I like how fast-paced it is compared to World.
I'm not too much a fan of the aesthetics or the lore to be honest.
Done: HR 6 quests, on hiatus, may return one day (pffft).

Danganronpa V3:     More weird teen ultimates are forced to take part in the killing game.
The usual tropes are here: amnesia, personality changes, the works.
This is good stuff but it's definitely the worst in the trilogy.
Done: all gifts and events, did all I felt like doing

BallisticNG: Retro-style high-speed sc-fi racing game a la the Wipeout games.
Great music, good aesthetic, controls sucks, but it ain't no Wip3out.

Coffee Talk: Fix drinks for customers and listen to their boring stories.
This is a chill game but the writing is nothing to write home about.
Done: all achievements unlocked!

Retrowave: Steer a car and avoid other vehicles in this arcade -style game.
It's a fun little game. Great music and it's dirt cheap when on sale.         Done: purchased all the cars, can't be bothered playing anymore.
This Strange Realm Of Mine: An FPS game with Minecraft graphics and Undertale design.
It's pretty bleugh. The pretentious writing makes me sick.
Trivia: this game got me my second ever foil Steam trading card.
Done: got to the tavern, put the game on 'permanent hiatus'.

CrossCode: Retro-style combat game with puzzles and an anime aesthetic.
It's too slow, word heavy, and kinda boring.
It reminds me of Bastion but not as cringe. I wish I could like this.
Done: finished the ship part, put the game on 'permanent hiatus'.

Journey: Control an anonymous being as you explore a wondrous world.
This game is not for me. It's too slow and boring. Good music though.
## DEMOS LIGHTNING ROUND ##
Sea of Stars:         A pretty good isometric RPG.
Monster Menu: A pretty alright dungeon crawler but soon gets boring.
Pocket Bravery: A pretty alright fighting game. The definition of 'forced soul'.
Super Dark Deception: A shitty 'horror' game that plays like Pac-Man.
Tokyo Psychodemic: Detective visual novel that's actually pretty good. Might get.
The Gravity Tricker: It's Kula World but with a robot. Not too good. Stick with Kula World.
Neon Blast:         It's like Breakout but you control the ball. It's not bad.
################################

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy: Three classic DS games in one package.
Gather evidence and solve cases in this visual novel puzzler.
This is a good set. I should get more games from this series.
Done: finished Ace Attorney, will play the other games later

#### 2024: ####

########################
PS+ LIGHTNING ROUND:
########################
GRID Legends: An alright racing game with floaty physics.
MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA: A fighting game that has too many systems and gets boring fast.
Humanity: A dumb puzzle game with annoying music.
Dreams: Takes too long to get started and gets boring quite fast.
The Witch and the Hundred Knight:    A promising game ruined by dumb mechanics.
Call of the Sea: A pretty boring first-person exploration game.
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim:    A pretty good game but it's not my cup of tea. I may try again later.
The Forgotten City: So dull I'll now call it the The Forgotten Shitty (Game)
Paradise Killer: Boring and slow first-person detective game. Tries too hard and fails.
Session:         Bare-bones Skate clone that with a horrible control scheme.

A Hat in Time: A delightful throwback to collectathon games of the 90s and 2000s.
It's a game with soul and charm, a rarity these days.
This is a good game other than the camera.
                                Done: finished game 100%

Rogue Legacy 2: Guide randomly generated knights through randomly-generated maps.
This game is tricky damn dicky,
I think I prefer the first game, though it's been a decade since I played it.
Done: finished game, got to NG+5, taking a break for now.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2: Beat people up in the past to keep historical events accurate.
It's good stuff but I might prefer the first game to this.
Done: finished story, finished all instructors, taking break

Horizon Forbidden West: Aloy searches for a backup of GAIA, the function that restored life.
There's more robot types and tribes as her quest takes her west.
This is one of the better movie-style open-world slop.
Done: played for two hours and dropped it. It's an unnecessary game.

Rollerdome: THPS meets action shooter. It's not bad but pretty repetitive.

Tales of Arise: An alright RPG but the plot is dumb and there are too many cutscenes.
The demo was better because the first few hours are such a slog.

Ghost of Tsushima: A samurai aims to repel the Mongol invaders to the eponymous island.
To do so he seeks to recruit samurai, Seven Samurai style.
This is a good one, better than bog-standard Ubisoft slop.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy: Playing through Justice for All.
Gather clues and present clues and mess with the prosecutors.
                                   Done: Chapter 1.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Play as a viking and slay the man who long ago raided your village.
This is alright but there are dumb mechanics (stamina meter for one).
This game is easily the worst of the 'reinvented trilogy'.
Done: doing story quests and side content when I enter new areas.
