Cancelled games - X

Cancelled video games project

This project concerns cancelled games in the range of 1995-2005.

Section: X

X10

X10 is a cancelled PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC game by Warthog.
It would have been an adventure shooting game of some kind.

Expected release date: 2003, then Q1 2004

You would of played a soldier tasked with exploring the world of X10.
There isn't just hostile creatures; there is also the native people engaging in warfare.
All the press mentions 'political intrigue' and 'deep plot', It's all marketing.

Your main task is to get to a research station to establish communications.
This is the tenth research station, hence the game's name: x10.
Settings would have ranged from cold tundras to jungles to whatever is in the above screenshots.

The game differs from its contemporaries, such as Halo, by several measures.
First the game is mostly outdoors, not confined to rooms and narrow corridors.
Another is that you are just a rank and file soldier, not a super-soldier.

Multiplayer was planned: online and LAN for PC, split-screen for console.

X10 was cancelled when Warthog was acquired by Tiger Telematics to make games for the Gizmondo.
Yeah. That all went down well. Pffft,

Xavier Fox: The Lost City

Xavier Fox: The Lost City is a cancelled Xbox game by Vision Games.
It was to be a pirate themed third person action adventure game.

Expected release date: Summer 2002

You play as the eponymous Xavier Fox, once the great Pirate Captain of the ship Lapin.
You wake up in a prison, with amnesia; no recollection of his past.

In this world there are six islands, all unique.
Despite their close proximity they all have unique flora and fauna.
Your quest is to explore these unassuming islands for clues behind your mysterious past.

You would play as two characters: Xavier the fox and Max the parrot.
Both are controlled by the same controller in unison; an analogue stick each.
Max follows you until you control him, and the camera returns to Xavier if he's in danger.

The story was to be complex, non-linear, with branching plotlines and multiple endings.
Characters and communities react according to your use of Mood Buttons,
These Mood Buttons make Xavier have different moods, which influence haggling and conversations.

The game was going to be ambitious.
There would be a unique weather system, a 365 day cycle with seasons, and dynamic environments.
The weather would be affected by these seasons.

The game's engine was the The Personification Engine.
The elements coded within are similar to what you see in table-top RPGs.
This engine allows for NPCs to react to you and vice versa for deeper world-building.

Xavier Fox: The Lost City went unpublished due to Vision Games going defunct.
I think Vision Games went defunct in 2002/2003; that's when their website went down.

X-PO: 2089 Cyber Revolution

X-PO: 2089 Cyber Revolution is a cancelled PS1 and PC game by Kalisto Entertainment.
It was created ti strengthen the cultural bond between France and Japan.

Expected release date: 1999 (the Year of France in Japan)

Kalisto, French developers, were working close with Japanese publishers, like NEC.
This 3D platformer combines traditional gameplay with history lessons.
Yep, an edutainment game in disguise.

X-PO is set in 2089.
You play as Koji and must defend the Internet from an evil entity.

As you travel through the levels you will find relics of the past.
These relics will tell you about their history (mostly French stuff).
For some reason the market wasn't keen on it. Wonder why...

In 2015 the game was found and preserved.
